What: Les Trouvés White Wine Washington 2013 $18

Where: Metropolitan Market, McCarthy and Schiering, Downtown SpiritsEsquin Wine and Spirits, QFC (West Seattle, Dravus, and Bellevue), Seattle Wine Co., World of Wines, The Grape Choice

Why: Ever since syrah was planted in the Yakima Valley in 1986, this Rhone Valley native has been on the rise in Washington. More recently, however, growers and winemakers have been exploring a number of white Rhone varieties with some impressive results. Unfortunately for consumers, the price tag for these wines is often north of $20, making the cost of entry a little high for those looking to do some exploration.

A delicious exception is the 2013 Les Trouvés White Wine Columbia Valley ($18). Les Trouvés is a second label for budding Woodinville star Avennia that focuses on négociant-style wines (read a writeup of the winery’s ever-so tasty red). A blend of roussanne, marsanne, and viognier, the 2013 White Wine brings aromas of almond, stone fruit, and flowers. The palate has a lovely sense of texture and tension, with a long finish capping it off. It’s an exquisite—and exquisitely priced—example of the category. Drink up!
