The news that Queen Anne's elegant Hommage will close August 8 was a surprise, to say the least. The restaurant, which spent four years as Book Bindery before the departure of chef Shaun McCrain inspired a refresh last summer, reopened in its current state just this past September. At the helm was French-born chef Nico Borzee.
Hommage owner Sumi Almquist says Borzee needed to attend to personal matters. "We wish him luck in all his ventures." Her email to me concluded with quite a kicker: "If you want blood and guts, it will have to be over drinks and strictly confidential."
However the space along the Fremont ship canal, part of the Almquist Family Vintners winery run by Sumi's husband Michael, apparently has a new chapter in store. Sumi Almquist says the ownership team will take a break and some back with something new–something created with the help of Patric Gabre-Kidan, she says, "so I can promise it will be good."
