One of Ballard's best new breweries has announced plans to open a new brewhouse and taproom in the spring, which will expand their (currently exhausted) brewing capacity significantly. The old space will be turned into a brewery-slash-barrelhouse, which will hold barrels full of aging sours and other experimental brews.
According to the Queen Anne Review, the space formerly filled by Cioppino Italian Restaurant—and Vuong Loc’s Portage before it—is changing hands once more. It’s being transformed into a French bistro, which is slated to open in March.

New York entrepreneur Andrej Ivanov is planning to open his 7,000-square-foot taproom by May, pushed back from an earlier estimate of February. Ivanov also owns Radegast Hall in Brooklyn and Pilsener Haus in Hoboken—in fact, he credited himself with “starting the whole beer hall revolution”—so he’s no stranger to the beer-and-brats formula. He also name-dropped Rhein Haus in a few interviews, so we smell a rivalry brewing.
Trinidadian-American chef Pam Jacobs will open a Wallingford location of her Eastlake restaurant in late February or early March, according to Wallyhood. The new spot on 45th Street is expected to have lunch and dinner service, a full bar, and occasional live steel drum music.
Holy Mountain Brewing
This fledgling brewery, which launched its first beers in October, is opening its taproom in Interbay today at 3 p.m., according to Eater Seattle. The 60-seater will feature food from Skillet to pair with any of a dozen draft pours.
Thai Thani Kitchen
The Thai Thani family of restaurants now has a new location, in the form of this South Lake Union lunch spot. According to the Seattle Times, the restaurant has been mobbed by Amazon employees at lunchtime every day since opening.
Jeremy Hardy’s Mt. Baker–based wood-fired pizza shop is soon to open its third location in West Seattle this April, Eater Seattle reports. The California Avenue spot will have a small bar and patio in a 1920s vintage building.
This Capitol Hill cocktail bar, owned by the Bottleneck Lounge’s lovely Erin Nestor, served its final mule last Saturday after four years of business. The bar made a Facebook post announcing the closure the night before, serving one last happy hour before shuttering. According to CHS, Nestor is opting to focus on a new project, called Two Doors Down, near the lounge.
Seattle healthcare worker Loren Klabunde has launched an ambitious $100,000 Indiegogo campaign to fund a 64-tap tasting room. The spot will not offer bottles or cans, just tastes and growler fills of a rotating selection of beers produced within a 100-mile radius of Seattle. A detailed breakdown of the project, the expenses, and the perks (a year’s supply of weekly growler refills—still not enough to try all the taps) are available on Klabunde’s Indiegogo page.
The executive chef at Restaurant Roux will leave the restaurant on February 13 to pursue an opportunity in Arkansas. Robertshaw will be joining the Rope Swing Group, a small hospitality company in the Ozarks that revitalizes lagging downtown areas, according to a press release. Roux owner Matthew Lewis is currently on the hunt for a replacement.
Josh Henderson's lakeside restaurant has seen several staff changes since the start of the year. Former wine director Antony Bock (late of Dahlia Lounge and Etta’s) promoted to general manager, Justin Lind (Barolo, The Hollywood Tavern) promoted to assistant general manager, and Jack Rogers promoted to sous chef alongside Zoi Antonitsas.
