There are fake food holidays, and there are legitimate holidays being co-opted into excuses to eat and drink, And then there are restaurants that offer free meals to veterans and active military on November 11. Here, three edible expressions of thanks for your service to the nation.

Free Chowder.
Free bowls of clam chowder—for veterans and for anyone who just wants to support veterans' access to health care. Duke's Chowder House is giving away free bowls of its namesake soup all day, and donating 25 cents per bowl to Seattle Veterans Hospital. The offer stands at all six Duke's locations.

Free Enormous Burgers.
Bring proof of military service to any of Lunchbox Laboratory's three locations (South Lake Union, Bellevue, or Gig Harbor) and your meal is on the house.

Free Dick's.
From 10:30am until close, military members (both active and veterans) can bring military ID or show up in uniform and the iconic drive-in will express its gratitude via a free burger (any burger on the menu), fries, and a soda. This offer stands at all Dick's Drive-In locations. The giveaway has become an annual Dick's tradition; founder Dick Spady served in the Navy during WWII and the Air Force in the Korean War.
