The Narwhal, Renee Erickson’s Walrus-esque food truck debuted at the Queen Anne Farmers Market last week. The truck will be serving up plates like fried oysters, smoked trout salad with lentils, and Anna Wallace’s incredible celery soda every other week at the market. 

However the 1960 dairy van turned mobile seafood dispensary is still putting together an official schedule. That’s why I was especially excited to hear that Narwhal will surface at the Hilliard’s taproom this Sunday from 2 to 7. 

The plan, according to Hilliard’s partner Adam Merkl, is to have the Narwhal make Sunday stops as regularly as possible given how many people will likely be clamoring for catering appointments. “If we get them twice a month, I’ll be thrilled.” 

So keep an eye on Hilliard’s Facebook and Twitter as well as the Narwhal’s page for details. Erickson’s restaurants Walrus and the Carpenter and the Whale Wins both pour the Ballard brewery’s blonde ale and Chrome Satan, a California common–style ale that also plays very nicely with Narwhal’s menu.

Local brewery taprooms—especially the bounty of new ones in Ballard—have been busy partnering with food trucks, a smart move considering you can eat the food indoors, and with an excellent beer in your hand. The fact that breweries licenses allow for all ages is also a boon to beverage-seeking stroller-pushers...of which there are many in Ballard. One final, unrelated note: I love, love, love the Narwhal's scripted logo.
