Barrel-Aged Brew at Brave Horse Tavern
What do you get when an imperial porter ages for a year in a cabernet franc barrel? Sample the concoction for yourself at 6 in the Tack Room at Brave Horse Tavern. Tickets can be purchased online for $30 and include food pairings and a chance to chat up the brewers from Elliot Bay Brewing and Chinook winemakers. 

THURSDAY, February 7

Cupcake Royale's DIY Valentine's Day
Need something sweet for your sweetie? Bellevue’s royal cupcaketeer hosts a decorating party for kids and parents. For $5, a chocolate or vanilla cupcake is yours to frost, decorate, and if you're not up sharing, eat. Call 425-454-7966 for more info.

Washington vs. The World
Compare pours from Washington, California, France, and Australia in this first installment of “Washington vs. The World,” hosted by Metropolitan Grill’s own master sommelier Thomas Price. SUNDAY, February 10

The Fifth Annual Pike Chocofest
Chocolatiers, brewers, bakers, and vintners—69 in total—will be showcasing their finest at Pike Brewing Company’s pre–Valentine’s Day tasting extravaganza. Tickets are available online for $45.

Lunar New Year at Monsoon, Monsoon East
Ring in the year of the snake with traditional holiday favorites like sticky rice wraps, pork belly stew, and "Happiness Dumplings” of red and mung beans. The traditions continue when guests receive lucky envelopes stuffed with candy at the end of the meal. Reservations are recommended. 

Speed Rack Bartending Competition
The fast and furious and female gather for a drink-making contest benefitting breast cancer charities. Come to the Century Ballroom from 3 to 7 to cheer on your favorite tenders, including Alena Harbin of Golden Beetle and Agrodolce, Marley Tomic-Beard of Smith, and Nikki Worley of the Gerald, as they mix it up in timed heats before a panel of cocktail authorities. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

TUESDAY, February 12

Mardi Gras Cooking Class
Make Fat Tuesday really count with this New Orleans-inspired tutorial. Learn to make Creole-style bread pudding and dairy-free hush puppies with Kim O’Donnel, author of Meat Lover’s Meatless Celebrations, at Book Larder from 6:30 to 9. The class is limited to 10 people and tickets are $50.
