These days new bars or restaurants almost can’t get a business license in Seattle unless they serve drinks (or at least water) in mason jars. But lately this quaint glass vessel is seeing more action in the dessert department, at least around Seattle.
Tomorrow afternoon, an author dedicated to baking desserts into jars (that would be Minnesota's Shaina Olmanson) is joining forces with a local sweet shop that made its name baking cakes into jars (that would be Autumn Martin’s Hot Cakes).
Olmanson is in town promoting her book, Desserts in Jars: 50 Sweet Treats That Shine. She’s doing a sugar-fueled demo, tasting, and book signing on Tuesday, August 21, at 1pm at Martin's Ballard Ave shop. Attendees get to sample sweets from the book, which includes recipes like petite applie pies and peanut butter and jelly parfaits, as well as Hot Cakes classics and housemade sodas. Everyone goes home with a signed copy of Desserts in Jars.
The event is $20 a person; book your spot by calling Hot Cakes at 206-420-3431.
