Here Comes the Sun

Nine New Alfresco Dining Spots

How about a side of Vitamin D?

Take it all in on Restaurant Zoë’s patio.

Is that the sun we see? Fingers crossed, it looks like the weather might finally start cooperating. And for those hard-earned days of Seattle sunshine, we’ve rounded up some new spots with honest-to-goodness awesome alfresco options.

Summit Public House
As Capitol Hill Seattle reported in February, owners of this low-key pub, a sports crowd favorite, are planning a $35,000 alfresco overhaul. The remodel will add fifteen sunlit, south-facing seats and opens June 1—just in time for Eurocup and summer Olympics festivities.

Hunger
Among the perks of Hunger’s new, roomier Fremont location: a 30-seat patio offering daily happy hour from 4–6 and front row seats to some of the city’s best people watching.

Lunchbox Laboratory
The South Lake Union and Eastside locations each boast patios, but only the SLU one has a new fire pit for breezy nights. "Kick Ass Hour" with food and drink specials happens every day from 3–6 and 9–close on both sides of the lake.

Terra Plata
One of the more impressive options out there, this rooftop is slated for mid June. The dreamy deck overlooks the Seattle skyline and will seat around fifty, including some bar seating. Surrounding diners are more than 600 edible plants—herbs, lettuces, and the like—that the restaurant will use alongside its locally sourced produce. The patio will also have overhead coverage and heating as needed.

Red Mill Totem House
Burgers, beer, and sun: Hunker down at one of the picnic tables for the ultimate summer trifecta. The Ballard spot, also home to some dynamite fish-and-chips, opened in October, so the tables are feeling the heat for the first time.

Cure
With a patio facing Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park, Cure is another people-watcher’s paradise. The Euro-style restaurant has open-air seating for fifteen and a daily happy hour from 4–6. Try one of the watermelon margaritas, basically liquid summer.

Skelly and the Bean
Enjoy dinner or the just-launched weekend brunch in the 30-seat outdoor space at North Cap Hill’s community-built rustic restaurant.

Urban Family Public House
The folks at the Ballard taphouse recently converted their back patio into an outdoor beer garden. With 25 rotating brews and enticing "beermosas," expect seats to go fast.

Restaurant Zoë
The recently relocated restaurant features an enclosed 30 seater with huge open windows—perfect for taking in the hubbub of the bustling corner of 14th and Union.

Where are you grubbing and sunning this weekend?
