Rumors floated for some time that operations at Thundering Hooves, a family owned farm out of Walla Walla Valley lauded for its animal-raising practices and provider of meats for many a Seattle restaurant, have been in limbo. On Monday afternoon a fluttering of tweets initiated by local food writer Rebekah Denn confirms that the longstanding Washington purveyor is in fact calling it quits.

Denn posted a link to the farm’s latest newsletter, dated March 14, which lays out the facts: "Due to unfortunate financial circumstances Thundering Hooves LLC is ceasing all operations immediately. All existing orders and all new orders for our products will not be filled or delivered." The note, signed by one Joel Huesby, goes on to apologize for any inconveniences caused and notes, "There may be a limited amount of inventory that will become available. Check the website for updates" before thanking customers for their "confidence in us and our products."

What a bummer.
