This Week in Drinking

Suntory time: Paul Clark recommends a single-malt from Suntory Yamazaki.
This week in drinking: can you hear us, Mr Douglas? The Seattle Times’ Tan Vinh went to Serious Pie for happy hour this week, and found, as I did, that it’s amazingly tasty and “heartbreakingly” short. [ST]
Meanwhile, The Stranger’s “Happiest Hour” covered Five Points Cafe, and included some celebrity trivia. “Accompanied by awkward boyfriend du jour (Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson),” wrote Marti Jonjak, “[Drew] Barrymore was allegedly asked to leave because she was underage at the time.” [S]
But hold on a minute, Marti. When we were writing the Best Bars feature, the Linda’s staff told us that Barrymore was booted from their bar for being under 21. Could she have been kicked out of both? Hmm. This will require further investigation.
Over at Seattle Weekly, Julien Perry braved the ire of Bloody Mary people everywhere (they can be fanatical about their favorites), and boldy named the top 5 Bloody Marys in the city. [SW]
Oh and, Paul Clarke—you know you can trust that guy with all things cocktail—has a fantastic gift guide for drinks enthusiasts on Serious Eats, including a “starter” single-malt from Japan for $42.99 and a gift pack of syrups for tiki drinks from Portland’s Blair Reynolds, $35.
