Upcoming Booze Haps

Pumpkin-carving with hard cider, a bargain of a beer pairing dinner, and a Bar Mitzvah for a kosher brew.

October 20, 2009

This Sunday the 25th, Volunteer Park Cafe is hosting a pumpkin carving from 2-4pm. Five dollars gets you: a pumpkin, VPC-made cookies (have you tried those mothers? They’re amazing), apple cider for the kids and—here’s what we’re interested in—hard cider for the adults. VPC doesn’t know what kind of cider the distributor will be dropping off for the event. “Hopefully something local.”

I haven’t yet been to Urbane (that name!) but I’m happy to see it’s getting on the beer-pairing bandwagon. Next Monday, October 26th the restaurant will host a “brewmaster’s dinner” featuring beers from Two Beers Brewing. Brewer Joel Vandenbrink, a very interesting and approachable guy, will be there to talk about the brews. Go see him. The dinner is $25 dollars and will pair four (undetermined) dishes with four Two Beers brews, among them the 20:20 Blonde, Immersion Amber, and Echo IPA.

On Wednesday, October 28th, Brouwers hosts a Bar Mitzvah Party for Jewbelation 13 from Schmaltz Brewing (San Francisco). They’ll be pouring a number of the brewer’s beers and will feature a special kosher food menu.

Have fun.
