The Bread of the Dead

Essential Baking’s newest offering is not as scary as it sounds.

Look for Essential’s Pan de Muerto beginning October 21st.

El Dia de Los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that is actually celebrated over dos dias. Every day on November first, the Mexicans honor their dead children. (They call them “angelitos.”) The next day, they focus on dead adults.

It doesn’t sound very fun, but by all accounts it is.

Pan de Muerto, the bread of the dead, is a traditional food eaten during this celebration, usually accompanied by a hot chocolate. It’s sweet and eggy like brioche and laced with anise. This year Essential Baking Company is offering its own version of Pan De Muerto, available at the bakery and in grocery stores where Essential products are sold.

Look for it on shelves between October 21st through November 3rd.
