Cheap Wine for Weekdays: Domaine De La Rouletiere Vouvray Sec 2006

I’ve been neglecting the Cheap Wine for Weekdays series, but it’s back, baby. And I’ve got a good summertime white to start things off again.
I first encountered this dry, grassy vouvray, made from 100% chenin blanc, at ze veray franche Voila! Bistrot in Madison Valley. It’s delicious (with the usual disclaimers for wine snobs: won’t change your life, etc), with some very nice fruit (taste the pear) and it’s pretty cheap—you can order it from Pike & Western for $14.99 a bottle.
It’s made to wash down your dinner, and quite a compliment to light summer pastas and all sorts of poultry dishes or a plate of cheese, apples, and honey.
If you’ve had wine made with chenin blanc before and found it too sweet for your liking, try this one anyway. These wines range from supersupersweet to dry as a bone. Cheers.
