Behind the Bar

German Mixmeister Guest Bartends at Vessel

Catch him Sunday, June 29th and Monday the 30th

Vessel has invited Mike Meinke, one of Berlin’s most famous bartenders—a man known far and wide for his gin obsession—to do a guest stint this Sunday and Monday, and you don’t want to miss it.

Let me back up for a moment and say something: I think the whole guest bartending thing is super fun and highly underrated. The bartenders are always all amped to be behind a different bar in a different city and they want to impress you and talk to you and make you an unforgettable cocktail. If you are at all interested in mixology or distilling, for God’s sakes go.

Meinke, whose bar back home is called Triobar, is renowned in Germany for his huge collection of vintage spirits and avid enthusiasm for classic cocktails and molecular mixology. He makes his own Old Tom gin—a sweetened gin that was a common ingredient in cocktails prior to prohibition. (I wonder if he’ll be bringing along a bottle. Worth asking.)

Meinke’s Seattle shift begins Monday, June 29 at 4pm and ends at midnight on the 30th. “Feel free to ask him questions,” says Vessel’s Jim Romdall. “but you may get a very long response all in German.” Go!
