Seattle Beer Week

This hipster dog loves Dogfish Head.
So, I’ll be writing more later about Seattle Beer Week once I’ve had the chance to talk to its three organizers: Ian Roberts (of Brouwers), Mike Baker (who founded, but has left, Baron Brewing), and Nat Pellman, who manages the bar at Brouwers. In the meantime, however, I wanted to make sure you marked your calendars because this thing is going to be—to use some lingo I couldn’t really pull off even back before it wasn’t wincingly outdated—off the chain.
Here are some highlights from the packed schedule: Matt’s in the Market will be hosting a beer tasting dinner featuring brews from Pike and Trade Route Brewing Company (formerly Laughing Buddha Brewing. There was some kind of lawsuit thing with the name. ) One of the courses is this delicious-sounding items: Mussels and Clams in Ginger Beer Broth with herbs. A series of tastings will take place at Roberts’ Wallingford brew emporium, Bottleworks. (The one on May 8th will feature Dogfish Head—a favorite brewery of both me and my hipster dog Izzy, pictured.) Fremont’s annual Hopscotch Festival is May 8th and 9th, there are a bunch of events at Beveridge Place Pub ….The list just goes on and on and on. (See full schedule here.)
I’m trying to wean myself off of the word awesome but let’s face it: Beer week is going to be awesome. And off the chain. Can’t wait. If you want to school yourself on local craft brews in the meantime, check out this Seattle Met feature.
