A new U District cafe called Bean Coffee Lounge sent along word that it will be opening its doors in late July or early August. In this city that’s not exactly stop-the-presses news, but Bean will also boast some serious tech amenities as well—iPads will be installed at most tables, and the space will have charging stations aplenty for different types of smart phones.
For people toting their own laptops, tableside USB outlets mean you don’t have to bring along a cord, or hunt for prized real estate near power outlets. Bean also has two sizable Apple TV screens and other assorted hardware and software for the Apple-inclined. All this place needs is a genius bar and a fleet of earnest twentysomethings in blue T-shirts trying to upsell you on the cloud.
Bean will serve Lighthouse coffee, pastries from Macrina, and food from Molly’s Salads. Long-term plans also call for things to get boozy after 6pm, with coffee-influenced martinis and such. The shop, located at 1116 NE 47th Street, already has a website up, complete with a countdown clock set to the opening day.
