Dry Fly Releases New Wheat Whiskey

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on a bottle of the just-released 100 percent wheat whisky from Dry Fly, carpe diem people: The spirit went on sale to bars and restaurants this Monday, and whatever they don’t buy will be released to the hoi polloi on Friday, August 7th at these stores.
If you have a friend in Spokane, get them to drive over to the distillery that day, when Dry Fly will sell whatever it has left in its inventory—limit 2 bottles per person.
Liberty Bar owner Andrew Friedman kindly gave me a sample of the whiskey yesterday and oh geez, is it ever sweet. Syrupy, almost. The sweetness makes in eminently sippable, however, with much less burn than straight bourbon tends to have. (Although, full disclosure, I had just tried someone’s coffee cocktail and then a wasabi-swabbed piece of this odd tuna-salad maki roll right before I tried it, so it wasn’t like I had some kind of pristine palate going in.) Friedman said he and his staff were pleasantly surprised by how much they liked it, and that they’ve been playing around with it in all kinds of cocktails. Stop by there tonight and try some though going forward I would suggest hitting Liberty on Tuesday nights, when the arguably overemployed Keith Walbauer is behind the bar.
