Mack’s back. According to a video announcement posted to YouTube this morning, Seattle’s Grammy-winning great white hope will drop the independently produced This Unruly Mess I’ve Made on February 26.
Backed by a (melo?) dramatic orchestral-slash-gospel track, Macklemore explains that fame stunted his creative mojo and so he had to “go ghost.” “Being comfortable is what kills artists,” he says with what has become his patented level of earnest sincerity. So with producer/DJ Ryan Lewis he bought a 1985 Suburban and left town to find what he claims to have lost.
Hard to say for sure if “Downtown” – the loopy, disjointed, yet catchy single the duo released last August – is a product of this soul-searching sojourn (to Spokane?), but if it is, expect This Unruly Mess I’ve Made to be … messy. And expect it to be everywhere.
