Bill Nye is not dead. Any rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. (Don’t you know not to believe everything you read on Twitter?) In fact, last month he was featured as ABC News' “Person of the Week.” That’s all because June marked 20 years since Bill Nye the Science Guy began filming in a humble Seattle warehouse. This weekend, some 80 members of the show's cast and crew reunite in Seattle to celebrate many years of continued influence and rapport.

“All this attention reinforces what we did long ago. The show still has an impact,” said Hamilton McCulloh, coordinating producer of Bill Nye the Science Guy. Impact might be an understatement when it comes to the show's success. It succeeded at its mission of “changing the world by getting kids excited about science,” and has kept Nye at the forefront of science’s movers and shakers ever since. (He also kept in touch with fans by hosting a popular Ask Me Anything chat on Reddit last year.) “Any kid that has gone through the seventh or eighth grade in the last ten or 15 years has had Bill Nye as part of their curriculum,” said McCulloh. “If anything, Bill’s influence is greater now than it was 20 years ago.”

McCulloh tells us that the reunion will recreate the Nye lab door, highlight loads of memorabilia and Emmy awards, and feature Nye's Almost Live! cohort Pat Cashman as MC. Unfortunately, the reunion is not open to the public, but you do have a chance to catch Nye in person at Friday night's Mariner's game, where he will be throwing out the first pitch. For science.
