Renee Erickson is ready to open more restaurants this weekend.

Hungry for news? Welcome to our Friday Feed, where we run through all the local food and restaurant news this week—and maybe help you figure out where to eat this weekend.

It’s Hip to Be (Pioneer) Square

The first two spots in Renee Erickson’s (Sea Creatures restaurant group’s) long-awaited trio of restaurants coming to the Railspur complex in Pioneer Square are planned to open this Sunday, December 14. Lowlander Brewing will begin pouring fresh beer straight from the on-site tanks where it’s brewed and serving it with classic beer hall cuisine, such as sausages and fries. Meanwhile, Un Po Tipsy is going to turn on the pinball machines and dispense draft cocktails and canned beers, along with NY-style pizza by the slice.

Last Meal Alerts

Less than nine months after a much-delayed opening, Bellevue high-end Chinese restaurant Jiang Nan has closed, reports Downtown Bellevue. The 8,000-square-foot location, formerly Sugar Factory, proved to be too much for the Flushing-based chain, which closed without warning.

Thankfully, some local favorites that will be closing soon gave fans a bit more of a heads up, allowing them to plan one last feast—or more.

  • A sad slainte: For 35 years, T.S. McHugh’s Public House has poured pints and served shepherd’s pie, but the Queen Anne watering hole posted a note on its door recently saying that the final Irish whiskey will be sipped there on December 23.
  • Artfully bowing out: Since 2016, chef Zac Reynolds’s quirky and creative Cook Weaver has occupied the mural-adorned space in the bottom of the historic Loveless building on Capitol Hill. This week, Reynolds announced the restaurant will close on January 1, in large part to give him more time with his family. For the final run, all meals will be the full, 12-course, $170 tasting menu.
  • Last chance: The owners of Georgetown bar Slim’s Last Chance announced this week that they are closing up and heading south to California. The roadhouse-style venue will continue hosting bands and slinging chili February 20.
  • Slow roll: Upscale Ballard restaurant Copine hinted the end was near in a post earlier this year and has now elaborated on its plan. It will continue to serve its four-course prix fixe menu and Sunday takeaway meals through May 30.

Better News

  • Star map: Star Chefs has been in town highlighting the Seattle restaurant community’s rising stars, including Ahmed Suliman, founder of Cafe Suliman. In its profile, it dropped a wee bit of gossip: Suli has a cocktail bar called Shibshib coming to the former Eastern Cafe space that will similarly highlight Arab flavors and culture.
  • Re-fried chicken: Only a few weeks after closing its previous Ballard location, Cookie’s Country Chicken has reopened in its new location, not far away, in the same complex as H Mart.
  • Big beef: The folks behind the Chubby Cattle chain of hot pot and BBQ restaurants have created a combined concept called Wagyu Factory, which took over the former Niku Niku space inside Shoreline’s Asian Family Market. The new spot does all-you-can-eat, with upgrade options for A5 beef.
  • Speaking of chains: Southern California’s Eggslut opened its first Seattle location in September inside Melrose Market, and now there are signs up that the next one will open in Southcenter Mall this coming summer.
  • Ben-Golly! Seattle does not, a Bangladeshi friend of mine has notified me multiple times, have a single Bangladeshi restaurant. Kha-Bar, set to open next year on 12th Avenue, per Capitol Hill Seattle, should rectify that situation.

Oh, BTW, here’s what you missed last time.
