Caffeinated cat lovers of the Eastside, rejoice!

Seattle has a budding relationship with cat cafes; now this trend of cuddle-while-you-caffeinate has made its way to the Eastside.

Add to the list of local cat cafes planning to open this year an establishment known as The Whole Cat and Kaboodle—a boarding, grooming, and retail shop in Kirkland that's expanding to include a cafe too.

Owner Nancy Howard has nearly 20 years of experience with cat nutrition and behavior (she also runs a nonprofit for unadoptable, feral cats called Feral Care); she wants her cafe, tentatively named Wholly Cat, to be a resource center. Howard says it’s all about educating people, understanding the cat’s perspective, and adopting kitties—all with an expertly brewed coffee in hand.

The coffee in question is yet to be determined (perhaps the presently cat-cafe-approved Herkimer?), but Howard hopes to partner with a local roaster. Yes, there will also be tea for the coffee averse as well as a small selection of snacks. As per health department guidelines, a glass wall separates the cafe and the cats, but those with a covered beverage of choice can then commune with the felines.

A notable difference at this cafe compared to most others in the country is the option to bring your own cat

Hopefully highly caffeinated cat lovers adopt by the armful at this new Kirkland cat cafe set to open this May.
