Noble Fir Hosts a Hiker Social

This Wednesday, raise a glass to the joys of the trail.

For best results, read the guidebook before you drink all the beers.

Put down the Nalgene bottle already and raise a pint glass to the great outdoors. Northwest hiking guru Craig Romano (if there’s a trail in Washington, he’s probably written about it) heads up a “Hiker Social” with the Washington Trails Association this Wednesday.

Outdoor aficionados will gather at Noble Fir in Ballard at 6:30pm. Bar co-owner Rick Weersing knows his stuff; he worked for 10 years at REI before opening the bar with an outdoorsy theme. Tap beers are mostly sourced from local breweries, and you can even peruse a small library of hiking guidebooks, maps, and wilderness guides at the bar—look for Romano’s newest, Backpacking Washington. (Or pregame by checking out Romano’s trail coverage in Seattle Met.)

As part of the year-old bar’s “Pints for Parks” Wednesdays, $1 from every drink purchase goes to the WTA, a nonprofit organization that looks after Washington’s extensive network of hiking trails. That means, basically, that the more you drink at this social shindig, the better your next backpacking trip will be.
