On November 15, more than 250 leaders from philanthropy, business, academia, and the nonprofit sector gathered at the Four Seasons to celebrate Seattle's role in empowering women and girls worldwide at the 4th annual WOMEN in the WORLD breakfast. Speakers included Yvonne Musiime, graduate of the Gashora Girls Academy (project of Rwanda Girls Initiative), Gloria Cruz, an EarthCorps participant from Peru, and a performance by Naomi Wachira, recently named “Best Folk Singer” by Seattle Weekly. At the event, the Seattle International Foundation announced $266,000 in grants to 18 local organizations working on global women’s issues.
