The active-outdoor brand Eddie Bauer launched a limited edition collection earlier this week. The Originals collection is a modern take on earlier designs from its nearly 100-year history; Eddie Bauer founded the company 96 years ago in Seattle. He was an avid adventurer and his innovation in down apparel made a mark on the outerwear industry, especially in the Pacific Northwest.

According to the press release provided by Eddie Bauer: "From the first down jacket to outfitting the first American ascent of Mt. Everest to our current line of technical outerwear, Eddie Bauer continues to be a pioneer in outdoor apparel,” says Mike Egeck, President and Chief Executive Officer of Eddie Bauer. “The new Eddie Bauer Originals line features timeless styles for the modern adventurer, reminding us of Eddie’s legacy and his impact on the outdoor industry at large. He was America’s original outdoor guide.”

So what's in the collection? Take a deep breath. Recreations of the "blizzard proof" 1936 Skyliner Model Jacket (Men’s and Women’s, $199), the 1944 Yukon Classic Down Jacket (Men’s and Women’s: $249 and referred to as “the aristocrat of all down jackets”), a WWII replica of the 1942 B-9 Down Parka (Men’s: $299) and 1944 Swiss Model Down Jacket (Women’s: $199, created by Bauer's wife Stine). Also, the Kara Koram Down Parka (Men’s: $249) which was made famous on the renowned American expedition to K2 in 1953, a recreated 1957 Down Super Sweater (Men’s: $129, Women’s: $199), and finally, in celebration of the National Parks Centennial and in collaboration with Pendleton, Eddie Bauer has a limited edition version of the 1936 Skyliner Model Jacket ($399). It will be available lined in Pendleton wool and in eight National Parks patterns: Yosemite, Badlands, Great Smoky Mountains, and Grand Canyon Pendleton patterns for men and Rainier, Rocky Mountains, Glacier, and Yellowstone patterns for women.  For each jacket sold, Bauer will donate five percent of the net proceeds to the National Park Foundation to support the restoration of the Grand Canyon Train Depot and the historic Glacier Hotel spiral staircase in Glacier National Park. Big exhale.

The Originals collection is currently offered online and at select retail stores nationwide (downtown Seattle's location is in Pacific Place).
