Meet Mollie Ruiz-Hopper, a Seattle-native blogger who has been a part of the online style scene for more than half a decade. Often featuring her love for her Australian labradoodle and all things shoes, her blog, Mollie in Seattle is a testament to her sweet and contemporary style as she sports outfits for whatever occasion.

Shop Talk: For a little background, where were you born and raised and where are you currently living?
Mollie: I was born on Whidbey Island! Right after I was born my parents and I lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (that’s where my dad is from) until I was five. After Mexico we moved to Washington where I spent the rest of my years growing up in a city called University Place, WA. Currently I live in downtown Seattle.

Your personal style in three words:
Classic, feminine, colorful

What do you do outside of blogging? Are you a full-time fashion blogger or is it a side profession?
Outside of blogging you’ll find me running along the water and in the Olympic Sculpture Park—I’ve run five half marathons in the last couple years. I spend time with friends trying out new restaurants, traveling and practicing my cooking skills. I would say running my blog is a full-time gig, in addition to that I work in PR for a Seattle-based company.

What's your blogging timeline? When did you first start and what inspired you to take it up?
I started my blog in January of 2010, so I’ve been doing this for a while. I was inspired to start because I love to write and I love fashion, I figured a blog would be the perfect place to jot down the things I enjoy using and wearing. It’s evolved into a small business for me now and I love it!

What's the hardest thing in terms of blogging about Seattle style?
Well, it’s tough sometimes to schedule shoots outside when the weather here can be a bit unpredictable. Other than that, I don’t really think there’s anything too tough about blogging about Seattle style.

What's the best thing in terms of blogging about Seattle style?
The best thing is that everyone’s style here is so diverse. I enjoy going for walks around Seattle neighborhoods to see what everyone is wearing; doing this helps inspire my style. From relaxed casual looks to super stylish and sophisticated suits, I think anything really goes here, and I love that. One day I might be wearing ripped jeans and a flannel, and the next day I might be wearing a formal feminine dress. I don’t ever feel like there’s one specific look I need to stick with, it’s fun to wear what I’m comfortable in.

One blog/Instagram that you've been obsessing over lately:

A blog I read almost religiously is Pink Peonies. I love Rachel’s style and that she shares insights on her life. For Instagram: I enjoy @preserve_us, Blake Lively’s lifestyle website. They’re always posting beautiful images and interesting products like earrings and dresses that, after seeing them, I realize I can’t live without!

What's your ultimate wardrobe essential item?
Gosh, I feel like this changes somewhat over time and seasons but I find I wear my leather jacket a lot. It’s great for all seasons and looks good dressed up and down, with dresses, jeans, scarves, etc. The one I wear the most I’ve had for five or six years and I swear it only gets better with age and wear.

Give other style bloggers a piece of your own advice.
Photography is everything. Having great photos makes a huge difference. It’s definitely worth investing in a nice DSLR camera or paying a photographer to take your photos.

What do you hope to see more of in Seattle's style future?
I hope to see more formal events, I love dressing up and I’d say that there aren’t tons of events where wearing a formal gown makes sense right now.
