Seattle Duo CMR TYZ Featured at Urban Outfitters

The T-shirt of the summer is hand-shredded right here in Seattle.

What do Meghann Sommer, Lily Raskind, and Ty Ziskis and Carlos Ruiz of CMR TYZ have in common?

All these Seattle designers (and perhaps more; let us know who we might have missed) have been carried or contracted by Urban Outfitters—which is no small feat, and hopefully, no small boon for the bank account. What I love about big box love is that it yields more flexibility for small shop innovation.

Speaking of big boxes: I stopped by the Pioneer Square studio of the multidisciplinary CMR TYZ guys and there was some major production going on. Dying, shredding, shaping, and packaging. UO placed a huge order; they're basically making a Seattle-made T-shirt into the t-shirt of the summer. It's not a hard sell, made of Pima cotton from Peru, they're as soft can be—and you can't beat the handmade look.

Check out the interview the retailer did with Ziskis and Ruiz, and the major play they're getting on the site's shopping page.
