Remember when we learned, via Ann Deotte that fashion is underrepresented on Kickstarter and therefore Seattle's savvy use of the platform makes a lot of sense? It's worked for Deotte and Michael Cepress, and other recent locals—in a variety of categories. (So many that we simply can't keep up here.)

We wanted to pause to take note of two fundraising campaigns as we track this trend of public fundraising.

  • Mark Mitchell is going a different route: he recently started a campaign via Shunpike to fund the next iteration of his hit show, Burial. From his blog: "I am working toward taking the Burial ensembles to another city or cities. I need to have them photographed formally on the models, to clean and store them properly, and deal with a number of tedious and costly necessities, so we are raising the funds to do so. If you were moved or inspired by my work and wish to contribute financial support, your gift will be a wonderful means to help move Burial forward." You have until October 20 to pitch in and become a part of this local phenomenon.
  • Locally based art director and fashion fan Jenny Fort has a Kickstarter going for her line, Lu. Featuring on-trend, boxy, throw-on-and-go basics in shapes and silhouettes that could work for a variety of women with a variety of lifestyles, the collection will be shown at a trunk show on November 7.
