What makes a busy designer, shopkeeper, and former reality show star throw a sewing workshop series into the mix?

Lisa Hunter at Vian Hunter tells me, "I happen to have a fantastic patternmaker, Pennie Laird-Sangerman, who has been giving sewing workshops for years. We decided to pool our talents and utilize the design room in the back of my store."

Certainly makes sense in terms of how many of us are feeling this time of year. It's either roll up the sleeves and get to work learning new skills and expanding ideas, or go to bed at 6:30.

"I think people are wanting to be creative and also home sewers are excited to learn how to make patterns that fit their body," the designer told me.

"A lot of teens want to go to fashion design school but need a head start with sewing, pattern-making, and sketching; our teen-intensive workshop culminates with a runway fashion show in the store showcasing their designs. But I've had women say 'I want to do that workshop!' so who knows, we might do cocktails and fashion design for the 21-and-over set and have them put on a runway show themselves."

Picture your design inside Lisa Hunter's window at Vian Hunter. And then get yourself to one of the workshops to make it come true.
