We Were There: FGI Trend Event

A brief debriefing from the recent trend event at Neiman Marcus's Mariposa restaurant.

Ever wonder what Fashion Group International is all about?

The annual trend event on Tuesday, November 27 at the Bravern’s Mariposa restaurant inside Neiman Marcus provided a good example.

A panel moderated by Andrea Ward included the editor of this blog, Laura Cassidy, as well as stylist and costume designer Rebecca Luke, salon owner and stylist Rosaline Hampton, and Gene Juarez creative director Kim Lundin; together they unpacked spring 2013 trends spotted on the New York and European runways.

Takeaways: The best trends are like waves not tsunamis; we like the ones that continue rather than blow in and then quickly back out. For example: next season's sheer-layer layering, black and white graphics, and polished bedheads.

(Flashback to 2011's trend event; we were there, too.)

After some tuna tartare appetizers, local wines, and a Trophy cream cheese cupcake or two, Seattle’s fashion professionals caught up on style news and industry developments; we met the new fashion director at Bag Borrow or Steal (didn't know it was a locally based company?) and learned about some developments there. We'll report back when things are official.
