Runway Projects
I got word yesterday that only a few standing room only tickets remain for tomorrow night’s thaw. The show, a benefit to fund social services and research for Huntington’s Disease Society of America, is Seattle’s essential showcase of new and emerging regional men’s/women’s fashion design talent. And it’s a great party with some amazing auction items to boot. (Two tickets to the Marc Jacobs show at next September’s fashion week anyone?)
Check the slideshow for a few stolen images of the kinds of work we’ll see (assuming your holding some hot tickets — or dialing up the last two as we speak) tomorrow night — and then visit the designers page on the thaw site for direct links to the artist’s work. Hardworking Seattle visionaries like Karly Orr and Liise Wyatt, and Portland powerhouses like Holly Stadler (check the current issue of Seattle Met Bride & Groom for one of her girly yet super-modern gowns) completely transcend the old-school notion of a "local designer." We’re not talking spit-shined EZ McCall patterns; we’re talking innovation and ideas, and stuff you really want to wear.
But again – there aren’t many tickets left. If you can’t score one, set yourself a reminder for next year (and check back here in a few days for a recap)—and settle yourself with zoning out in front of Bravo’s new Project Runway replacement. The Fashion Show premiers tonight and, well, I like Isaac Mizrahi—as a character from some downtown New York-based realist drama if not necessarily as a designer, per se, so I think it will at least be entertaining.
Sweeten—savory-en?—the deal with a take-out pie from Flying Squirrel Pizza. Excuse this non-sytle related piece of information, but holy red sauce and farm-fresh ingredients: I’m totally obsessed with this newish place in the Genesee neighborhood (I highly recommend the #6).
Besides, nothing makes a rainy night in front of the TV feel less lame than a really intelligent and delicious box of take-out. And some killer pajamas.
