Fall sports are right around the corner! What steps are you taking to make sure you’re putting your best foot forward this season?

Whether you’re competing on the field, challenging yourself with new physical goals, or taking part in your favorite outdoor adventures, an unexpected injury can change things in a matter of seconds. Don’t wait until then to prioritize your physical health. Stretching, using the right gear, and taking breaks can be a game-changer for how you feel and perform.

A few tips from us:

  • Balance your activities. Developing a fitness program that targets your whole body and incorporates cardio, flexibility, and strength reduces your chance of injury and improves your overall athleticism.
  • Warm up. Simply running in place for a couple of minutes, while focusing on slow controlled breathing, helps loosen ligaments, muscles, and joints and increase blood flow.
  • Aim for slow, controlled stretches. Avoid bouncing; the strain can lead to less flexible muscles overall and contribute to overstretching and injury.

Aim for slow, controlled stretches.

“Dr. Wahl was, by far, the most comprehensive and caring orthopedic surgeon I have EVER had. My surgery was incredibly complex and the fact that Dr. Wahl took the time to explain every image and what his thoughts/plan were gave me great confidence in him. I honestly have never felt so cared for, assured by the slow pace at which he made the surgical plan and his bedside manner by him and Suzanne.”
