Face of Mead

Denice Ingalls, Mead Maker/Owner, and Glenda Downs, Sales and Marketing

Presented by Sky River Mead June 14, 2022

Flowers, bees, crystal clear water, yeast, and inspiration. These are the ingredients required to create delicious mead. Denice Ingalls & Sky River Mead has been perfecting this combination for 25 years here in the Northwest.

It was in literature that mead originally caught Denice’s eye, then she fell in love with all the delicious goodness of honey and the art of making mead, also known as the Nectar of the gods. She began in 1997 with 3 varieties and the notion of re-introducing this ancient beverage to the Northwest. Today, she and her sister Glenda Downs make 16 varieties that include 5 variations made strictly from Honey and 11 more made with the addition of fruit, flowers, and spices. “Mead is truly a world beverage.” Denice explained, “The oldest known origins of mead come from China and Ethiopia, but it has been found in every corner of the globe. We draw our inspiration from the Northwest and our Scandinavian and Irish ancestry”

All of our meads are available in their tasting room, South of Woodinville’s Hollywood Schoolhouse. Tastings, glasses, bottles, and club memberships are available.

“Our tastings each include 5 meads,” explained Glenda Downs, “we have a cozy indoor space for tasting as well as a garden tasting area with a sweeping valley view, whichever our guest prefers.”
