What Seattle Met Staffers Want to Do in Seattle in 2024

The joy of working at a city magazine is you are constantly being exposed to all the amazing things that city has to offer. The bummer is that, well, you can't do everything. But a new year offers a chance for us to take stock and set some 2024 #goals.
Culture Fix
I get so deeply siloed in the world of restaurants. In 2024 I want to engage with all the other great culture in Seattle—take my kids to 5th Avenue Theatre, see more Seattle Arts and Lectures. I’m already busy perusing the Hugo House schedule. Hell, even a movie in an actual theater wouldn’t be a bad place to start.

The (Other) Center of the Universe
For the past year, friends keep inviting me to their favorite night out in White Center—adult-only roller skating at Southgate Roller Rink while a live band plays, then wrestling-themed karaoke at Lariat Bar. Now do I do karaoke or even like wrestling? Nope! Can I roller skate without bruising my butt? Probably not. But the sheer irreverence of it all is appealing, and I hate that I keep having to turn down the invitations. Goal for 2024: have a goofy night out in White Center.

Park Life
As a creature of habit and great introversion I have gotten very comfortable staying in my neighborhood over the last few years. In 2024 I look forward to leaving my West Seattle comfort zone and exploring more of the city. I'm a regular at Lincoln Park nearly daily; in the new year I will rediscover Discovery Park, galavant in Golden Gardens, and lounge near Lake Union.

Almost Live
In mid-December, I caught a show at the Tractor Tavern with a buddy (MJ Lenderman and Karly Hartzman of Wednesday). As I looked out over the crowd, I realized to my horror that it was my first time there in more than 10 years. Once upon a time going to see live music at places like the Tractor was a staple in my life. It was something I did spur of the moment on random weeknights because, well, I was a lot less busy. But busy or not, I'm going to make time to see more shows at more venues in 2024.
