Lulu, seen here with mother Tufani, has grown over two feet since Woodland Park Zoo welcomed her in June. Though she’s just one of 160 vertebrates born at the zoo this year—including a photogenic baby snow leopard, a photogenic litter of baby otters, and a slightly less photogenic baby penguin—Lulu has owned the spotlight. The zoo featured her in ads and on Facebook, where the comments from Seattleites on why they love giraffes range from the long-necked ungulates’ grace to (paradoxically) their clumsiness. What’s clear: Baby animals are marketing and social media gold. One 30-second video of Lulu posted on the zoo’s Facebook page has already garnered over 75,000 views.
