Sustainability Leadership Awards

Sustainable Seattle's annual awards diner is a night to honor the community leaders in all things green, sustainable, responsible, eco-friendly, conservation minded, etc.

It may sound a little harmlessly self-serving (the way community awards are by nature), but Sustainable Seattle has done a good job of pulling from the community-nominated pool a wide variety of industries and individuals: from city utilities to food retailers, nonprofit leaders to the Seattle Mariners.

Tickets are steep. But if you aren't attending, at least browse the nominee list to see who is taking action to help our city walk the walk when it comes to conservation.

Seattle Fight for Air Climb

Here is a fun way to spend your Saturday morning: race a bunch of other weekend warriors up the 160 floors of Rainier Tower in downtown Seattle. That's right, knowingly subject yourself to that unholy climb when you could be home in a bathrobe drinking single origin coffee and swiping through the New York Times on your e-reader.

You're doing it for a good cause, though. The Seattle Fight for Air Climb aims to raise funds for the fight against lung disease. The race is this weekend but fund raising lasts all the way through February 16. Also you don't have to conquer all 160 floors. There is a 40 and 80 floor race for us normal humans.

Sex Trafficking: Changing a Culture of Demand

The sex trade is a problem  in the Northwest, with reports continuing to show that trafficking plagues King County.

Town Hall's StolenYouth panel aims to break down the issues of modern day sex slavery, while also touching on what could be considered the real problem: to stop the sex trade, you have to address demand, not just the supply. Panelists include Seattle city attorney Pete Holmes, and Dan Arkless, Founder and Chairman at ArkLight Consulting.
