The Seattle Times Presents: 2014 Pictures of the Year
Twenty fourteen was a crazy year, filled with victories big and small, controversy, and citywide solidarity. And that was just the Seahawks Super Bowl win!
Really though, looking back at the headlines of the previous year, Seattle (and Washington state) really ran the gamut: $15 minimum wage, the Oso mudslide and Carlton Complex fire, the fall of Mark Driscoll, Bertha, Ferguson protests, the Seattle Center helicopter crash, and yes, the Super Bowl, just to name a few.
Look back on the year in photos with The Seattle Times's 2014 Pictures of the Year. Presented in conjunction with the Seattle Public Library Foundation, this event is free and open to the public.

Sustainability Leadership Awards
Sustainable Seattle's annual awards diner is a night to honor the community leaders in all things green, sustainable, responsible, eco-friendly, conservation minded, etc.
It may sound a little harmlessly self-serving (the way community awards are by nature), but Sustainable Seattle has done a good job of pulling from the community-nominated pool a wide variety of industries and individuals: from city utilities to food retailers, nonprofit leaders to the Seattle Mariners.
Tickets are steep. But if you aren't attending, at least browse the nominee list to see who is taking action to help our city walk the walk when it comes to conservation.

Connect Seattle, a grassroots effort spearheaded by the CBC, thinks this goal is achievable over the next decade, through smaller community-based projects such as downtown bike lanes and Rainier Ave renovations.
What's important in these initial planning stages is organization. Come join the movement and help make Seattle the most bike-friendly city in America.
