The Raising of America: Early Childhood and the Future of Our Nation

This spring, PBS is set to air The Raising of America: Early Childhood and the Future of Our Nation a California Newsreel documentary about the importance of investing in early childhood education and development.

But you can see it early, with the added bonus of a post-screening discussion featuring King County Executive Dow Constantine, early learning advocates and educators. If you still need selling, there will also be light refreshments.

Meaningful Movies: Princess Angeline

The Duwamish people are the true Seattle natives. This 2010 documentary explores the everyday life of the Duwamish tribe and their interaction with the region's first white settlers through the experience of Chief Seattle's daughter.

As always with Meaningful Movies, the screening is free, the popcorn is free (donation hat goes around), and the film is accompanied by a relevant discussion, in this case with Seattle filmmakers Sandra and Yasu Osawa.

Ranier Ave South Road Safety Corridor Meeting

The Road Safety Corridor Project on Rainier Avenue South was announced this month, and two meetings were promptly scheduled for the community to gather consensus on the main problem areas regarding pedestrian and bike safety on Ranier.

If you missed the first meeting—Josh nerded out about it in a recent post— or just felt you weren't loud enough, definitely attend the second meeting.
