For Monday

Human Consequences of Technology

New York Times bestseller and Pulitzer Prize finalist Nicholas Carr will discuss his newest book The Glass Cage: Automation and Us, which focuses on how technology does much of our cognitive heavy lifting these days.

In other words, how much damage we do to ourselves Instagramming before breakfast and using Wikipedia instead of memorizing stuff.

Human Consequences of Technology, Mon, Oct 6, 7:30–8:45pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5

For Tuesday

Ignite Seattle

This event invites anyone and everyone to submit proposals for a chance to get on stage in front of a live audience and talk up something they are passionate  about for five minutes.

At the last event in May the topics ranged from preparing for a robot apocalypse to wondering if bicycles could be lonely.

The proposal submission deadline has passed but tickets are still available for audience members.

Ignite Seattle, Tues, Oct 7, 8–10:30pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5
