Halloween is under two weeks away, and you can only watch Hocus Pocusso many times before the charm stars to wear off. How about something a little different this week? And while you're at it, why not support one of the city's great nonprofit film centers?
This is your last chance to catch Grand Illusion Cinema's screening of this little-seen, weird 1940s thriller that Roger Ebert (RIP) called "frightening in an eerie, mysterious way that was hard to define." Cat People is about a Serbian immigrant who marries an American man but won't consummate the union because she's afraid that she'll turn into a cat.
We've all been there.
Cat People, Tue, Oct 21, 9pm, Grand Illusion Cinema, 1403 NE 50th St, $9

Free Pronto Street Skills Class
Have you seen the Pronto kiosks popping up around the city? Are you ready to welcome this brave new world of bike sharing? Fact is, many new Pronto users may not be the most skilled riders, particularly in downtown streets. If you are one of these people, there is no shame in it. Cascade Bicycle Club wants to be your Sherpa.
The public class will cover basics such as choosing the best bike route, how to ride safely in vehicle traffic, even how to fit your helmet properly. You'll be zipping around like a stressed out bike messenger in no time.

Luckily, the Puget Sound Grantwriters Association is about the throw their 22nd annual conference, where both experienced and prospective grantwriters can mingle and trade best practices. The keynote speaker will be Sonya Campion of the Campion Foundation, advocates of supportive funding for the nonprofit community.
Awakening Your Case!, Wed, Oct 29, 7:30am–4:30pm, Washington State Convention Center, 800 Convention Pl, $195
