Central Co-op Presents: 'Food For Change'

Central Co-op, Capitol Hill’s granola-crunching neighbor to Trader Joe's, is screening Food for Change, a first-of-its-kind documentary that explores the trajectory of the food co-op as a community model, as well as the importance of organic foods and the establishment of regional food systems.

Following the screening, filmmaker Steve Alves will take the stage for a discussion about how co-ops are helping to shape the consumer landscape in the Northwest.

Central Co-op Presents:Food For Change, Thu, Oct 16, 7–10pm, Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway, $5

For Friday

Brian Little: The Nature of Human Personality

So your coworker is an insufferable, self-involved jerk who listens to nothing but Michael Savage talk radio all day. How much of that is their parent's fault and how much is just ingrained into their DNA?

Psychologist Brian Little will discuss this (not your coworker, but personality) with his book Me, Myself, and Us: The Science of Personality and the Art of Well-Being. Gathered from years of research, data, and personal accounts, Little explores how personality affects every aspect of a person's life and can have profound influence (positive and negative) on surrounding individuals.

Brian Little: The Nature of Human Personality, Fri, Oct 17, 6:30pm, Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave, $5

Green Building Slam

"Green building" is one of those buzz phrases everyone kind of knows without necessarily knowing the people, philosophy, or logistics behind it. While I wrote about EcoBuilding 2014 last week, that event was geared more toward professionals in the industry than the general public.

Green Building Slam is an educational opportunity for professionals and the public to converge. Industry folk will be able to promote their ideas and mission, while the public can become educated, ask questions, provide feedback. The event will feature ten of the most innovative (and hopefully super futuristic looking) sustainable green buildings in the region.

A portion of the proceeds go to the scholarship fund for students at UW's College of Built Environments

Green Building Slam, Sat, Nov 15, 5–9pm, University of Washington, Kane Hall, 4069 Spokane Ln, $25
