Vote online or at the festival for the best local film, which will then be shown at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2015.

The three local scripts chosen to be produced for the festival were given $1,500 to shoot over the summer, with 75 percent of the footage shot in the San Juan Islands.

The Art of Gaman: Arts and Crafts from the Japanese American Internment Camps

This Sunday is the last chance to see Bellevue Arts Museum's exhibition The Art of Gaman, a collection of arts and crafts made by Japanese Americans while incarcerated at internment camps during WWII.

The exhibition includes over 120 artifacts—objects of practical use, such as scissors, furniture, and puzzle games, to striking works of simple beauty, including woodcarvings and paintings—each created "to endure the seemingly unbearable with patience and dignity."

This just in: Financial institutions do not always have your best interest in mind

The Art of Gaman, Sun, Oct 12, 11am–6pm, Bellevue Arts Museum, 510 Bellevue Way NE, $10

For Monday

John Lanchester with Steve Scher: Understanding the Language of Money

This just in: Financial institutions do not always have your best interest in mind, and will intentionally use language that masks the truth behind that loan, that credit card, that checking account, even.

John Lanchester's How To Speak Money aims to help prevent "ordinary people" from signing blindly in the dark, and to empower them to take control of their own finances by becoming fluent in the language of money.

Understanding the Language of Money, Mon, Oct 13, 6:30pm, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, $5

Advance Notice for October 24

Behind the Table: Meet the Artisans of Pike Place Market

The north end of Pike's Place Market is where you'll find the artistans—the tables where many locals bring their out-of-town parents, but otherwise breeze through en route to a quick bite at Piroshky Piroshky.

The Pike Place Producers and the Pike Place Market Foundation want you to come celebrate the Market artists this month at Behind the Table, where you can bid on special hand-crafted items and enjoy all sorts of food from some of the Market's favorite vendors, including Le Panier, Pear Delicatessen and Pike Place Fish.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Market Community Safety Net, provider of emergency assistance to Market residents.

Behind the Table: Meet the Artisans of Pike Place Market, Fri, Oct 24, 6pm–10pm, Market Atrium, 85 Pike St, $40
