Kings' Move to Virginia Beach No Sure Thing
The Sacramento Kings---the NBA team that was originally rumored to be planning a move to Seattle to replace the Sonics if San Francisco hedge-fund manager Chris Hansen inks an arena deal with the city---may not be moving to Virginia Beach after all, the Hampton Roads, VA Daily Press
reports.
Last week, the Sacramento Bee reported that the Kings were considering a move to Virginia Beach under a deal with Comcast to build a new arena there.
Last night, however, Comcast president Peter Luukko was much more understated in his presentation to the Virginia Beach City Council, telling them the proposal was "very preliminary" and that Comcast is "in no discussions with any teams."
"Indeed, Joe and Gavin Maloof, the former casino magnates who own the Kings, have been trolling for a sweeter arena deal in Sacramento, Anaheim, Calif., and Seattle," the Daily Press reports. "All are established pro sports markets.
"Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads most assuredly are not."
