State Sen. Kilmer Thinking About Rep. Dicks' Seat; Port Commissioner Tarleton Looking at 36th Vacancy
A list of people who may run for retiring US Rep. Norm Dicks' (D-WA, 6) seat is taking shape this morning.
As we noted in Fizz, moderate state Sen. Derek Kilmer (D-26, Gig Harbor), who's pushing a $1 billion jobs bill in Olympia right now, is likely to jump in. He's evidently releasing a statement soon saying he's considering the run.
Other names: Moderate state Sen. Jim Hargrove (D-24, Hoquiam), environmentalist state Sen. Christine Rolfes (D-23, Bainbridge Island), state Rep. Kevin Van De Wege (D-24, Sequim), Kitsap County Commissioner Josh Brown, and progressive Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland, who would be the first African-American member of Congress from Washington State.
In other political musical chairs news: Port Commissioner Gael Tarleton is thinking of running for state Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson's (D-36, Ballard) seat. Rep. Dickerson announced to her colleagues in caucus yesterday that she is retiring.
UPDATE: Take Rep. Van De Wage off the list of hopefuls. He issued the following statement this afternoon:

After careful consideration with my family, we have decided it is best for the 24th District, and for us, if I remain in the state House. I look forward to working together with the next representative from the 6th Congressional District on the issues of importance to Clallam, Jefferson, and Grays Harbor counties.
