State Sen. Kilmer Running for US Rep. Dicks' Open Seat

By Josh Feit March 5, 2012

State Sen. Derek Kilmer (D-26, Gig Harbor), a moderate Democrat, made if official today, announcing that he's running for retiring US Rep. Norm Dicks' (D-WA, 6) seat.

Kilmer, a fiscal conservative who fought with liberal state Rep. Hans Dunshee (D-44, Snohomish) to lower the capital budget debt limit last year (he lost), but who's working with Dunshee this year on a jobs bonding bill, got a 55 percent rating from the Washington State Labor Council last session for voting against labor on a few big issues including workers comp reform.

Meanwhile, environmentalist state Sen. Christine Rolfes (D-23, Bainbridge Island), another name that had been circulating on Friday after Dicks announced he was retiring after serving in Congress since 1977, said she's not running.
