DelBene Nets Two Big Labor Endorsements
In a blow to other left-leaning candidates (Darcy Burner, Roger Goodman, and Laura Ruderman) in the race to replace Democrat Jay Inslee in the First Congressional District (Inslee, of course, is running for governor), former Washington State Department of Revenue director Suzan DelBene snagged two major labor endorsements this morning: From the lefty state Teamsters union, and from theĀ International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, which represents Boeing workers. Combined, the two unions represent more than 50,000 workers in the Puget Sound region.
In a statement, DelBene said, "I know how important it is to ensure everyone has access to a great education and affordable health care so they have a chance at success."
The nods from the lefty Teamsters and the aerospace union must have been particularly gratifying to DelBene after she failed to win the required two-thirds vote at last night's King County Democrats' endorsement meeting. Although the group's endorsement committee recommended endorsing both DelBene and Burner at its meeting earlier this week, they ultimately decided not to go for either candidate.
