A Misnomer at This Point

By Morning Fizz March 12, 2012

1. State Sen. Derek Kilmer (D-26, Gig Harbor) won the endorsement of the Pierce County Democrats on Saturday in the race to fill the seat being vacated by retiring longtime US Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA, 6).

"Race" is a bit of a misnomer at this point, though. Kilmer, the senate capital budget chair, is the sole Democratic candidate right now (despite an initial list of possible candidates when Dicks first made his big announcement earlier this month.)

On the GOP side, the one potential Republican frontrunner, state Rep. Jan Angel (R-26, Port Orchard) told the Tacoma News Tribune blog she's not in.

2. Local Washington Democratic Party spokeswoman Reesa Kossoff landed a big-deal gig: She's leaving this month for Ohio to be the deputy communications director for President Obama's 2012 campaign, where she'll be managing regional communications operations.

3. In case you missed it late in the day on Friday, we filed a report from King County Superior Court where a group of plaintiffs (education advocates, Democratic state reps, and the governor's office) made the case that I-1053, Tim Eyman's two-third rule on tax increases, was unconstitutional.

The Washington State Attorney General's office defended the rule.

4. Light rail ridership is up.
