Latest Poll: Voters Still for Legalizing Pot, but Support Drops

A new Elway poll shows that voters support legalizing marijuana 48 to 45. However, support is down from Elway's last survey on the issue in July when support was at 54-43.
After turning in 355,000 signatures last week , I-502, the measure to legalize pot and sell and tax it in stores, is queued up for November if the legislature doesn't pass it first. (They're not expected to.)
Measures traditionally need to start out above 50 (and preferably at 60) to withstand the negative campaign to come.
Elway writes:
Support for legalization has dropped somewhat since we asked the question last July. In that survey 54% were in favor with 43% opposed. The question this time asked how respondents were inclined to vote. The July question asked whether they were inclined to supportoropposelegalization. The dif‐ ference is not statistically significant, but the 50% mark is symbolically important.
The poll of 411 voters was conducted December 27 through 29.
