Friday Mini-Jolt: State Rep. Jim McCune
Today's loser: State Rep. Jim McCune (R-2).
McCune, a Graham Republican, was one of five state legislators who got bumped out of their current districts by the state redistricting commission earlier this week. Two Republicans, Ed Orcutt (R-18) and Gary Alexander (R-20) have been bumped into neighboring districts, producing a domino effect that gives them both the opportunity to run for open Republican seats.
One Democrat, Ruth Kagi (D-32), has decided to move back into the 32nd from her current home in Lake Forest Park, which is now in the 46th. Another, Margarita Prentice (D-11), has announced she will retire rather than run against incumbent Sen. Adam Kline in the 37th District or move away from her home in Skyway.
That leaves McCune, the only redistricted legislator who is landing in hostile territory without an announced plan: His new district, the 28th, is represented by two liberal Democrats, Tami Green and Troy Kelley. Unless McCune---now serving his first term---decides to move or retire, he will have to oppose Green or Kelley---in their fourth and third terms, respectively.
McCune has not yet returned a call seeking information about his future plans.
