Goodman Calls Liias a Grandstander for Lone 'No' Vote on Budget
In the crowded field of Democrats running for US Rep. Jay Inslee's seat (depending on how the redistricting commission draws it up obviously), state Rep. Marko Liias (D-21, Edmonds) is positioning himself on the far left.
Last week, he was the only Democrat to vote against the budget; he told us the new $320 million in cuts ignored the 99 percent.
Today, one of Liias' rivals for the open Inslee seat, liberal state Rep. Roger Goodman (D-45, Kirkland), trashed Liias on Facebook for "political opportunism and grandstanding."
Goodman offered his own thoughts on the budget vote—Good man voted 'Yes'— to Snohomish County progressive blogger Chad Shue.
He goes on to denounce the proposed sales tax increase and recommends getting rid of tax exemptions instead.

I was willing to support this practical resolution to the challenge of a very brief "special" session. The hard work continues now and into the regular session in January, digging into the real issues of whether and how to cut public services, how much new revenue can we raise and from what sources, and what kind of government "reforms" may be considered. At this point, we're about $500 million down, with $2 billion more to go.
