Extra Fizz: Disclosure Commission to Hold Hearing on Koch Brothers Matter

By Josh Feit December 2, 2011

Last year, PubliCola broke the news that a local Koch Brothers affiliate, Americans for Prosperity Washington, was spending money—and perhaps skirting local campaign finance laws— in Washington State's legislative races, trying to oust Democrats.

Now, more than a year later (Democrats have been fuming that the campaign finance scandal on their side of the aisle during the 2010 elections had been handled promptly), the Public Disclosure Commission is holding a hearing on the matter on December 8.

More than a year ago, the Democrats asked Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna to take the matter up himself. McKenna got involved in the PDC case against the Democratic consultant firm Moxie Media
at the PDC's behest .

I'll update this post when I know more about the PDC's position on the Americans for Prosperity Washington matter. AFPW was headed up by Kirby Wilbur during 2010 election season. Wilbur is now the chair of the Washington State Republican Party. PDC staff says they'll have more about the agenda of the December 8 meeting later today.

In August, when we last checked in on the PDC investigation, the PDC told us AFPW was not being very cooperative. AFPW's new leader, Nansen Malin, told us that was nonsense.
